Volvo has once again raised the bar on driver-safety technology with its new "City Safe" collision avoidance system. Approximately 75% of car crashes occur at below 20mph, so Volvo designed the new technology, with an optical radar system to monitor traffic up to six meters ahead. Volvo to Develop Next-Generation Flywheel Technology

Volvo has been awarded a 6.57-million-Swedish-kronar ($1.06-million) grant from the Swedish Energy Agency to develop the next-generation flywheel technology for kinetic recovery of braking energy in collaboration with Volvo Powertrain and SKF.
