Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid Sacrifices Nothing

Plug-in hybrid technology is growing fast. So is Volvo. Over the past year, both have proved time and time again to be key players in the automotive market. Taking this into consideration, it's only natural that the two should combine forces and create a mighty hybrid wave. Enter: the Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid.
Built with the performance of an XC60 and the fuel-saving superpowers of a hybrid drivetrain, the new XC60 electrified an eager crowd at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Wondering what sets it apart from the rest? A valid question seeing as most every automaker is pumping out a new hybrid model these days. But what makes the Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid truly unique is its "no-sacrifice" policy. In other words, you get power plus safety plus technology plus an incredible fuel-economy rating of over 100-mpg. When it comes to Volvo, there are no "minuses" involved. Now that's some math we could get into.
Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo, adds, "The XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept features an engine from our all-new, state of the art, four-cylinder engine family. Our new four-cylinder powertrains will get performance on today's six-cylinder level."1 Specifically, that performance sounds to the tune of 350-horsepower; 70 ponies from an electric motor and 280 from a four-cylinder, turbocharged engine.
Currently, Volvo has not released if or when the XC60 Plug-In Hybrid will make it to production. However, Secor Volvo is confident that some sort of Volvo-made plug-in hybrid will arrive on lots such as 575 Broad St. New London, CT 06320 by 2015. Whether it comes in the body of an XC60 or another new Volvo model, that's the question. To find out more information as soon as it arrives, be sure to stay tuned to our Volvo blog and contact us online with questions.
