Volvo Delivers Highly-Efficient Automatic Transmission

The mark of a true innovator comes from seeing high results achieved in unique ways. Such is the case with Volvo which has once again set itself apart from the rest. Rather than lazily basking in its title of "European Leader in Carbon Dioxide Emissions Reduction," Volvo was motivated to work even harder and has produced two new green developments.
Defying the unspoken law that highest fuel-efficiency must come with a manual transmission, Volvo has created a 1.6-liter diesel mated to an automatic Powershift gearbox. This means that drivers can enjoy the benefits of automatic while still achieving the same low fuel-consumption and CO2 emission levels as manual. It also means that a greater amount of consumers can work...or should we say "drive"...to support the Volvo "DRIVe Towards Zero" banner which aims to produce models that have little environmental impact. Models currently set to receive the automatic option include the following:
- Volvo S60- Volvo V60
- Volvo V70
- Volvo S80
While Secor Volvo is undoubtedly impressed by the automaker's green progression in the realm of diesel, we can't forget its applaud-worthy work on petrol variants as well. Through a handful of small but mighty tweaks, Volvo was able to bring CO2 emissions down to 135-g/km for its four-cylinder, 1.6-liter T3 petrol engine. To put this into perspective, Peter Mertens, Sr. Vice President of Research and Development, explains, "Keeping the CO2 emissions below 140-grams is essential since this is a level used by many fleet customers."1
